It looks to be out of our control. IIUC, device doesn't read the NFC tag while capturing video.

Just to confirm, this has never worked? This appears to be an issue (possibly intentional behavior) with stock Android. A Nexus 5X and Pixel XL do not respond to the NFC tag when Chrome is using the camera or while the camera app is in the foreground. (When Chrome is not in the foreground, the NFC does work even though the camera icon is in the tray.) However, a Samsung S8+ does respond to NFC in both cases.

I tried this on Pixel devices only and this has never worked.

We've confirmed that the NFC reader not working while the camera is active is by design for the Nexus 5X and Pixel.
