All I see from the screencast is a mouse cursor moving around nothing (just pure blackness).

I created a brand new OS level user account and tested using that. Under the new account I was unable to reproduce the problem, so the problem must be with some environmental variable or window manager option. I'll post another comment if I figure it out.

Using the same OS level user account with the problem, I created a brand new Chrome profile and installed only the Mute Tabs by URL extension; I was unable to reproduce. Experimenting some more with my usual profile I discovered that the bug only happens if I mute the YouTube tab via a keyboard shortcut (like with teh Mute Tab Shortcuts extension); if I mute it via left-clicking on the speaker icon in tabstrip the bug doesn't trigger. Strangely, even with Mute Tab Shortcuts disabled I can still mute a YouTube tab with Alt-M, even though Alt-M should mute the *video* rather than the tab, and chrome://extensions/configureCommands shows that there isn't any extension or app with Alt-M mapped.

Tested this issue using reported version #59.0.3071.109 on Linux Fedora 25, Mac 10.12.5 and Win10 This issue seems more like a Feature request as per comment #7. Hence Untraiging the issue so that it get's addressed. Note: 1. Unable to add the extension in M30 or < M30 builds as this extension doesn't have support for the older chrome versions. 2. Same behavior is seen in older (M45) and latest (M61) as well. 3. Removing bisect label as this a Non-Regression issue. Thanks!!

[Extensions traige]: Did you try contacting the extension developer? It's difficult for us to debug the working of a particular extension. Can you narrow down the problem to some particular extension API, which is not behaving correctly?
