Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/58.0.3029.110 Safari/537.36 Example URL: Any download Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Download any mp4 file 2. Open in VLC while downloading 3. If download finishes in the middle of playback, Chrome deletes the file and starts again 4. This kills playback once Media Player reaches point of restarting. What is the expected behavior? That Chrome accepts that the download failed due to permissions errors but stops killing the file to try again. What went wrong? Chrome kills and restarts a file if watching it before it finished downloading. This began on June 2016, prior to that there was never an issue; there were flags in chrome:flags to stop the restarting of a download Did this work before? Yes 48.0.2564 Chrome version: 58.0.3029.110 Channel: n/a OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 26.0 r0

[+asanka]: Know you don't own downloads any more, but this sounds like a resume issue, and may be working as intended.

Thank you for the reply. This is something that started a year ago and there are forums of people impacted by it. This is a feature that's acting as a bug. The option to disable download resume/restart was removed, cause this previously solvable bug to come back without any action available for recourse.

Yeah, currently this is working as intended. The partial file is not intended to be opened while Chrome is using it. There are other things that break as well (e.g. safe browsing checks which happen once all the data has been downloaded). However, streaming media types are a special case and IMHO should be allowed to be opened while they are being downloaded.

The bug you're claiming this is a duplicate of dates back to 2012. This is an issue that started in June 2016. This is not a duplicate because this was working fine well after that other bug was reported. avi's, mp4's, and other media break when being accessed before it's finished being downloaded.

Just like Issue 668344 , this issue should not have been merged into Issue 64062. This issue is newer, and distinct from the 2010 issue which has received no traction in 7 years.

This bug is super-annoying, especially when you download a file for a few hours, then Chrome decides to delete it and lose all the data. When is it going to be fixed? If you can't rename the file, just leave it as this. |
