Could you clarify what you mean by 'black screen'? Is the window containing the tabs black? Do you see the 8-10 tabs, but clicking on each tab you only see black?

Tested on Chrome Stable #59.0.3071.115 and Canary #61.0.3149.0 on Windows 7 and unable to reproduce the issue. Steps followed: 1. Launched browsers - Chrome and Canary. 2. Opened more than 10 tabs with different websites (Eg. Twitter, Youtube, CNN, BBC, news.google.com, Yahoo and others). 3. Used machine for some time (20 minutes). 4. Shut down the machine. 5. After 14 hours switched on the machine on same IP. Observations - Upon launching the browsers, “Restore” option is not seen and blank screen is also not displayed. A normal new tab is opened on both Chrome and Canary browsers. @Vishal -- Could you please try updating your Chrome to latest stable version as mentioned and by removing the extensions and creating a new profile to verify if the issue still persists. Please let us know if we have missed anything. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what could be causing this. I don't think it's related to session restore, but more likely compositing issues. +Dana and John in case they have ideas.

I think a trace would go a long way. When you see these black tabs, can you record a quick trace that includes you making one of the black tabs active? Tracing info: https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/trace-event-profiling-tool 2 different traces would be useful. One with "frame viewer" selected. And One where you choose "frame viewer" then go to "edit categories" and ensure both "cc.debug" and "cc.debug.picture" are checked in the right-side column. Thanks. That would let us narrow down what's broken for you.
