Project Member Reported by jainabhi...@chromium.org, Jun 14 2017

Issue description

Report : feedback/#/Report/65592149362

Description:
Cannot share links. Always says "attachment unavailable" for recipient.

UI language:
en_US

Version:
59.0.3071.92

Device Model:
Pixel

Device Release:
7.1.2

App Version:
59.0.3071.92

Steps to reproduce
Steps:
1) go to a website in mobile chrome
2) click menu
3) select "share"
4) share to FB messenger
5) recipient sees "attachment unavailable in place of a preview/link to the resource

Expected to see a preview or link to resource

Workaround
1) go to a website in mobile chrome
2) click menu
3) select "share"
4) select "copy link"
5) paste into FB messenger
6) recipient sees intended link

This also occurs with YouTube, so if you can redirect me to the Android component that is responsible for "cross-app sharing"...

Attached is a screenshot of my chat window with screenshots of what my friends are seeing, and a tasteful rendition of my likeness with said error message.

Okay, so this is is a bug in Facebook Messenger. If you have disabled your Facebook profile, but continue to use Messenger, you cannot Share items in Facebook chats. Re-enabling your FB account results in Share items appearing properly to recipients, in fact they load in the conversation even without reloading. There is some sort of requirement that things you share are proxied/hosted from FB proper when included in a FB messenger chat.
