I'm wondering if this is because he calls play() to fast as opposed to waiting for the clip to end. Could he try seeking then playing?

There are five audio elements created (four cloned from the first) So, afaik, the state of the first should not affect the playability of the subsequent elements.

I can repro this fine and the repro code is great. The 4 audio elements that are cycled through are cloned from a single audio element. Perhaps something related to the "multiple tag, single source" issue?
