Password Manager Doest not work and is incredible annoying and frustrating.

Project Member Reported by mvanotti@google.com, Jun 6 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 58.0.3029.110 (Official Build) (64-bit)
URLs: www.my.t-mobile.com/

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try to log in with my username.
2. Does not autocomplete the password.
3. Go look for the password in my chrome settings.
4. Password does not appear in chrome settings.
5. Go look for the password in passwords.google.com
6. Password appears there.

What is the expected result?

My password should autocomplete.

What happens instead?

My password does not autocomplete.

Please provide any additional information below.

This is the most frustrating functionallity I ever had. It happened in tens of pages that I decided to use chrome password manager to create a password and then, a couple of weeks later I try to login and the password is just not there, and nowhere to be found in chrome settings. I just learned about passwords.google.com, but I had to recover multiple passwords because of this bug.

It happened both with my personal account as well as with my work account.

Attach a screenshot or the output from chrome://password-manager-internals if possible

+vasilii who has helped debugging cases where autofill did not happen but passwords showed up on passwords.google.com.
Can we get a screenshot of your chrome://sync-internals/ ?

The second thing is in chrome://histograms. Can you search for PasswordManager.LinuxBackendStatistics and paste the related record here?

Is it correct that chrome://settings/passwords isn't empty and it's only that particular password is missing?
Thanks for your answer, vasilii.

I attached an screenshot from my personal profile.

Histogram: PasswordManager.LinuxBackendStatistics recorded 2 samples, mean = 10.0 (flags = 0x41)
0 ...
10  ------------------------------------------------------------------------O (2 = 100.0%) {0.0%}
11 ...

chrome://setings/passwords IS empty, both in my personal and work profiles. It was not empty a couple of weeks ago.

It looks like all the passwords got deleted from my local chrome accounts, but they appear in the web page.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
There is no screenshot attached so far.

I see that you use GNOME with Libsecret library. We store the passwords in the Keyring. You can use 'seahorse' app to read it. Is it true that your 'Login' Keyring is automatically unlocked on login? Is it actually unlocked while Chrome is running?

Now that you mention it. I had to delete my keyring a couple of days ago due to a password change. I wasn't aware that it would affect my chrome passwords.

Would it be possible to restore the passwords?
Of course, if you have everything on passwords.google.com. I'm surprised it doesn't work automatically. I need from you
- the screenshot
- PasswordManager.PasswordSyncState histogram (use the same steps in Comment #2).
- Chrome log when you launch Chrome (https://www.chromium.org/for-testers/enable-logging). Note that all the chrome processes should be down before you start it.
I closed and opened chrome -- nothing happened.
I rebooted the computer and both my chrome profiles got logged out.
After I logged in to my gmail accounts, each of the profiles got the correct passwords.

I think this solves the issue for me. Now everything works correctly and I don't think the logs would be very useful :/ Let me know if you still want them.

Did you get your passwords back in Keyring?
