Blacklist GPU acceleration on Windows XP

Reported by hbridge@google.com, Feb 15 2011

Issue description

GPU crashes are much more frequent and catastrophic (sometimes causing system hangs) on XP. Let's blacklist it for now for all GPU features and vendors. We'll revisit once we're seeing better overall stability.

WebGL is disabled on Win XP with Google Chrome 10.0.648.114 (Official Build 75702)

Comment 13 by Deleted ...@, Mar 11 2011

I guess Google wants all of us Chrome fans to switch to Mozilla, nice.

Comment 14 by hbridge@google.com, Mar 11 2011

No, we just don't want to crash people's computers. :)

We're restoring GPU-acceleration to XP machines with reasonably up-to-date drivers in 11.
Agreed with comment 14. After putting the ignore flag in and having my machine hang on one of the experiments I think it's better that users who don't know what they are getting into aren't experiencing that :).
Why only winXP? WebGL on Windows7 also has serious bugs, and even in the current stable version (See here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=75419). How long will this take to fix?

Comment 17 by Deleted ...@, Apr 1 2011

omment 14, an excellent answer. Looking forward to see it working on v 11.
Cheers.

Comment 18 by Deleted ...@, Apr 8 2011

--ignore-gpu-blacklist

Comment 19 by bergi...@gmail.com, Apr 10 2011

AWAITING THE UPDATE. APP LOOKS INCREDIBLE
--ignore-gpu-blacklist

--ignore-gpu-blacklist

Comment 22 by Deleted ...@, Apr 16 2011

--ignore-gpu-blacklist
--ignore-gpu-blacklist
You can't request all WinXP users to add a command parameter before browse a WebGL page. Users just leave to avoid tedious operation! Fix it please.

GPU acceleration is no longer disabled on Windows XP in Chrome 11: it will run on up-to-date drivers. Please update your graphics drivers as per this help article and try again: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=1202946
