[Googler Canary] Back button takes user back to Android home rather than the new chrome home

Chrome Version: 61.0.3114.0, 61.0.3115.0
OS: Android 7.1.2

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Launch Chrome canary and click on Home to load news articles
(2) Click on a news article
(3) After article loads, click Android back button

What is the expected result?
Chrome should take you back to Chrome Home page with news articles

What happens instead?
Chrome takes you back to Android home page

I think the sheet of Chrome Home is treated like a popup menu: you can close it using the back button, but you cannot return to it with the back button.
