||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: Canary 60.0.3102.0 OS: Android VrCore: 1.5.153389785 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Open www.reddit.com in browser 2. Place device into headset, pass DON flow => page is displayed in VR browser 3. Use controller to click on any of the images presented on the page => Image should be opened in a new tab 4. Click "Back" navigation button in the URL bar to get back to www.reddit.com What is the expected result: Browser navigates to the previously opened page (www.reddit.com) What happens instead? Navigation doesn't happen. However, Android system Back button is able to close current tab and navigate back to previous page.

Known issue, though I don't think we ever filed a bug for it. I think this is out of scope for BBB since we don't really support tab management yet, and re-using the code to close the tab isn't trivial and requires changes to ChromeTabbedActivity.

We have issue 726889 to track disabling the back button when it can't do anything. However, I think there is a question of how we want to handle URLs that open in new tabs when tab management is not supported.

Right now URLs that open in a new tab just replace the current tab, so you do switch tabs, but only to the foreground tab. The correct back button behaviour would be to close this new tab, as the back button normally does in clank. On Desktop we'll probably have to revisit this. I'm not sure what we want to do long term as Desktop and Android differ fairly significantly here. +cc joshcarpenter for thoughts on long-term UX here.

The repro steps laid out in this bug no longer repro. After clicking an image - there's a new url in the url bar (not sure how the new tab is actually operating), the back button is active and returns the user to the reddit.com page when clicked. Chrome 61.0.3135.0, Pixel XL, VR Core 1.6.157511470

This bug looks like a dup of crbug/728725, which has been fixed. I'll mark this a duplicate.
