Uneven letter heights on Reittiopas.fi with web font

Project Member Reported by drott@chromium.org, May 16 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: (copy from chrome://version)
OS: (e.g. Win7, OSX 10.9.5, etc...)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Go to www.reittiopas.fi
(2) Plan a journey and expand one of the itinerary suggestions
(3) Look at "Ticket required for this journey"

What is the expected result?
Lowercase letters should be even in height

What happens instead?
Lowercase letters are wonky an uneven.

Perhaps related to Hoefler copy protection? Initially observed on Linux, not tested on other platforms yet.

Does not seem to reproduce on Windows.

Comment 2 by drott@chromium.org, May 16 2017

My theory is FreeType's autohinting fails to find zones for the two subsets into which the Hoefler font is split and thus glyphs appear at different heights.

Comment 3 by drott@chromium.org, May 16 2017

The font does seem to have hinting instructions so we should be able to fix this by executing them, instead of doing autohinting.

Cc: bunge...@chromium.org
Probably the same cause as issue skia:6931 , only trying to perform autohinting, instead of executing the embedded instructions.
