Bluetooth frequently disconnects from Bose QC35s

Project Member Reported by dmargolis@google.com, May 12 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 57.0.2987.146
OS: ChromeOS (zako)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Connect Bose QC35s to Chromebox *and* to another device (in my case, an Android phone)
(2) Listen to music on the other device
(3) Keep listening

What is the expected result?

Bluetooth stays reliably connected

What happens instead?

Bluetooth occasionally disconnects from Chromebox

I don't know if this reproduces reliably when listening to music *on* the Chromebox, as I have not done much of that. I also don't know if being connected to the second device is in any way necessary to repro this.

This happens reliably now in 59.0.3071.91 while actively listening to music from the Chromebox. It renders BT headphones largely useless on chromeOS.

Joseph, do we think that the new BT firmware we received from Intel may help with this too?

Hi Sammer, unfortunately, Intel's new fw is not expected to resolve this problem. Reasons below. I will take this issue as more uses are complaining about it.

Reasons:
- Intel's new fw is to resolve the USB power suspend/resume issue.
- When the adapter keeps sending packets to an audio device, its USB power would not go into suspend mode.
- Hence, the disconnection problem observed here is another problem.

Hi Daniel, when I connected Bose QC 35 to a chromebook (Samus) and to another device (another chromebook or an android phone), the music playback is rather choppy. I listened to youtube for hours and did not experience the disconnection issue that you reported.

I do not have a Zako for testing since our chrome lab does not have that model in stock any more. Is it possible that you could try other chromebook model and see if the disconnection problem persists? I would like to make sure if the problem happens particularly on a Zako. Thanks!

I have a Samus. I can try to give that a shot at some time, though since
this is intermittent no promises on reproducing. (It happens at least once
a day, I would say, but that means working a day with audio connected to my
Chromebook!)

Will give it a shot and let you know this or next week.
Thank you, Daniel, for helping test a Samus!
