I thought it was all videos but after further testing it only happens on specific videos and only when they are in the facebook newsfeed, if you click through to the video's own page, it doesn't crash when it plays through.

https://www.facebook.com/PayLessMarkets/videos/10154822759747498/ This is an example video that makes the tab crash, but only when it's in the newsfeed.
,
May 11 2017
Same issue on Mac OSX, so it isn't a Windows 10 problem
,
May 11 2017
I'm also getting the same issue since updating to chrome version 58.0.3029.110. YouTube and Vimeo worked fine issue is only with facebook videos.

Per the Hanging Tab Bug Reporting instructions, I'm attaching I minidump of the hanging tab.
,
May 11 2017
I have the same issue since today only on Chrome (Firefox still good on FB) But i think I have the solution for me, when I try to reproduce the bug with 100% zoom, there is no bug. That doesnt works fine when zoom is 110% on the FB feed Oô
,
May 11 2017
going to a lower % zoom was a work around for me so far as well. 100% zoom > 90%
,
May 11 2017
ok so the lower zoom level seemed to help one video but others in my newsfeed still crash, including the example vid
,

Was working fine yesterday after facebook made changes to their video player. Today I'm having the same problem reported here videos in the facebook newsfeed causes tab to hang. Did not notice any updates between yesterday and today although windows did update a couple of days ago.

I look like I have this problem since the latest Nvidia driver : 382.05 Never noticed before that ...
,
May 11 2017
agree with marc, since i have the latest Nvidia driver too : 382.05
,
May 11 2017
I don't have the latest nvidia driver (for non related issues) and I have the problem.
,
May 11 2017
I have onboard intel graphics so it's not related to your nvidia drivers
,
May 11 2017
Same here with win7 and readeon gpu.
,
May 11 2017
After reading comments here about it and checking I was indeed at 110% zoom. After setting it back to 100% I have not had a tab freeze up while browsing facebook newsfeed over the last hour and a half.
,
May 11 2017
Could you also attach chrome://media-internals contents when playing corrupted video (you'll have to select the particular player so it's better if it's the only video open in Chrome at the moment)?
,
May 11 2017
I have the same problem. I have a Alienware 17 with both onboard Intell and Nvdia. Running Windows 10. Chrome version Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit). I was able to work around with moving back to 100%. However, there are websites I need the some feature on. I am running a 4K display and website sometimes appear too small.

Having difficulty duplicating the error, even when I was able to get the example video back my newsfeed (by posting it myself) that formerly caused a problem, it didn't cause a problem. But this ad from amazon consistently causes a crash when in the newsfeed: https://www.facebook.com/Amazon/videos/10154300635531568/ And the videos never cause a problem when you view the video directly. It's only some videos and only when they are in the facebook newsfeed and only when you play them about 10-15 seconds in.
,
May 11 2017
yes, I was able to duplicate the error perfectly by sharing that video and making it appear in my newsfeed and then going to the facebook homepage to view my newsfeed
,
May 11 2017
Not reproducible in -https://www.facebook.com/PayLessMarkets/videos/10154822759747498/ https://www.facebook.com/Amazon/videos/10154300635531568/ OS and GPU: Win10, ANGLE (NVIDIA Quadro GPU), Chrome- 58.0.3029.110. Could someone share the 1. server id from chrome://crashes 2. chrome://gpu I was not able to extract valid information from dump file. Regarding comment #21. All the above magic signature exists in older milestones. But [Renderer hang] v8::internal::LookupIterator::GetStoreTarget happens only in facebook.com (currently ranks #123 in M58 stable). Occurs in Intel/AMD GPU and almost 80% of the reports have no malware installed. Detailed info below. One more update in my reproduction testing. On a hunch, I turned off my windows 10 scaling (from 175% to 100%) because I have a 3200 x 1800 native resolution, and the video no longer caused an error. I set it back to 175% and was able to duplicate the error again. Could this be a scaling problem that only affects high resolution users who use scaling? Can you try increasing your scaling factor to 175% and see if that affects your ability to duplicate the error? Also those video URLs have to in your facebook feed. The URL for the tab that hangs is www.facebook.com, not the direct video URL. I was just giving you URLs of videos that when they are on the newsfeed on www.facebook.com cause the crash

Seems like facebook might be working on this. The behavior of what I have to do to reproduce the error keeps changing. At this point, playing the amazon ad in my newsfeed doesn't crash it until I pause the video and scroll off the screen.

#8, #12: Thanks for the dumps! Unfortunately, they seem to be for the main browser process, but it's the renderer process that seems to be hung in these cases. Any chance either of you can reproduce and dump all of the Chrome processes (or just the renderer, if you are sure of which one is hung)? Thanks!

#38: here's some more dumps, hopefully one of these is the right one. I narrowed down the options by killing as much as I could and then reproducing the error and taking dumps of all sub-processes remaining.

Does this happen if you use the --disable-gpu command-line flag? How about using --disable-accelerated-video-decode (by itself)?
Based on the callstack in chrome2.dmp the renderer is stuck doing something, so that seems to me to be more likely to be either a bug in facebook's javascript or in v8, though it may be triggered by something the GPU's doing.
The callstack is

macOS Sierra v. 10.12.4 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, Mid 2014) Chrome Browser Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit) New issue within the past 24 hours: Logged into Facebook, played embedded video content, about 5 seconds in the video freezes and the browser tab locks up... scrolling is disabled, back arrow disabled... only option is to close the tab and open a new tab, and reload Facebook. Not limited to any particular video. (Videos play in iOS FB app on iPhone.) Hardware acceleration is UNCHECKED in advanced preferences.

#38 I have been unable to reproduce the issue today to repost a dump. I've tried 110% and 90% zoom and no tab hangs at all. Perhaps it was an issue on FB's end that they've worked out?

See #c46. It seems to have been a problem on Facebook's end which they fixed.

Same here. Started the previous stable version. Now on version 59.0.3071.86 (Official build) (64-bits). I tried every possible suggested solution. Beta also. Still the same problem. I send about 8 chrashdumps to google, maybe that helps. I do not have a Facebook account, so i'm not logged in in Facebook. My wife has the same problem on her laptop. The strange thing is that sometimes a few days without the problem, and suddenly the problem is back. I can't find any relation with facebook's content eg. video.

this problem has plagued me for like 1-2 years or so. I start a facebook video from feed (windows 7-64), then I make the video full screen from the icon on the lower right corner. After this I click the search bar to the beginning to start the video again. Couple of seconds after this the video freezes and couple of seconds after the audio freezes. During this time there has been multiple versions of chrome where I experienced this and now with the newest one. This problem did not exist like 3-4 years ago or so, I don't remember anymore exactly when it started. I have windows 7-64bit, 2 screens, 1920x1080 and 1920x1200, i7 ivy bridge quad core, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, 50Mb/s wire connection. |
