Selection cannot be cleared on a New Yorker page

Normally when the user establishes a selection with long-press they can tap elsewhere to get the selection to go away.  On this New Yorker page once the selection is established a tap won't make it go away.  This happens even with Contextual Search disabled.  Seeing this on M-58 stable.

It seems this is caused by page's HTML.
I visited this page with Firefox Android, tapping whitearea doesn't clear selection
as Chrome Android.

Note: Users can clear selection by tapping back button.
