[TTS] Text highlight wrong on New Yorker article

Project Member Reported by donnd@chromium.org, May 8 2017

Issue description

We're seeing issues with highlight offsets being off-by-one on this New Yorker page. I have a wild guess that it's due to the giant "E" at the beginning, or some recent refactoring I did, or both.

Also seeing crashes on Dev.

Ramine, can you repro the crash on Dev? Thanks!

Here's a screenshot from Alex. I'm also sometimes seeing a mismatch between the selection and content shown it the bar.

This is happening on many New Yorker pages even on Stable. Maybe related to issue 484479 where the New Yorker pages were causing trouble?

Ramine, can you check how long stable has been showing these off-by-one issues for Contextual Search on New Yorker pages?
sure. Will investigate.

I could repro on latest 58.3029.108.
Will bisect the issue.

Ramine, don't spend too much time bisecting, I'd just like to know if this is a fairly recent regression or not (last 2 or 3 months).
