Can't launch OR uninstall Chrome Canary

Reported by isaacna...@gmail.com, May 5 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Try to launch Chrome Canary

What is the expected behavior?
Canary launches.

What went wrong?
Error is shown:
--The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail--

I looked at the Event Viewer, and found the following:
--
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\myUserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome SxS\Application\chrome.exe". Dependent Assembly 60.0.3081.0,language="*",type="win32",version="60.0.3081.0" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
--

Did this work before? Yes

Chrome version: 60.0.3081.0 Channel: canary
OS Version: 10.0.15063 Enterprise
Flash Version:

I also can't uninstall it! When I try, nothing happens.

Hi. i'm unable to reproduce this with today's canary. Would you please try running the installer from https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/canary.html?platform=win64? No need to uninstall your current version first -- the installer should update and repair it. Please let me know how it goes.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to re-install Canary either. When I launch the installer, I get the following error message:

"Another operation on Google Chrome is in progress. Please try again later."

I've tried killing all existing Chrome processes, restarting, etc. So far, no luck.

I can confirm that I'm having a similar issue.

At first I couldn't launch Canary, version 60.0.3087.0, getting the same error message as reported in this bug. Uninstaller could not be started either.

Trying the Canary installer gave me the same "Another operation on Google Chrome is in progress. Please try again later" error message.

After the installer failed, there were three chrome installer tasks in task scheduler. I tried stopping those tasks, but there is one that I can't stop from task manager. However, after stopping all except that one task, the installer worked and I was able to Launch Canary version 60.0.3090.0.

But, I can still see that one installer task still there in task manager (I haven't rebooted the machine).

+fdoray: That message corresponds to IDS_INSTALL_SINGLETON_ACQUISITION_FAILED, which generally means that another instance of setup.exe was wedged. Is there any other reason that could happen?

Full memory dumps of the hung processes might help pinpoint the uninstall/reinstall problem, which is a different bug from the sxs issue. Meh.
Here's the memory dump from Google Installer when it fails to install.

https://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel

2. Able to uninstall chrome successfully from Control panel (On Windows 10)

Note:
As per the above provided screenshot, Already chrome is installed in your machine & you are trying to install the same again.Hence Please try to remove the existing chrome from the system Task manager & then try to install/uninstall the chrome freshly.

Thanks. By killing chrome processes as they spawn, I was able to uninstall Canary.

When I reinstall, it works fine. Thanks for the help!
