Weird. There was a /usr/local/bin/pip that referenced an old virtualenv Python. I'm not aware of any virtualenv or pip behaviors that would result in creating such a /usr/local/bin/pip. Anyway, removed it and Puppet works now. The Puppet errors weren't causing any issues anyway as far as I can tell, other than causing me SAN damage.
