When opening a link in a casted tab, propose to cast the target tab instead |
||||||
Issue descriptione.g. when you have a google doc open, and click on a link, it will open in a new tab by default. If you actually want to cast the target tab, you now have to either manually paste the URL into the current tab, or stop casting and cast the other tab (which takes a long time). It would be nice if there was an easy way to cast the target of the new link, like getting a small bubble that allows for switching the casted tab with a single click.

For me the time between selecting "cast this tab" from the hotdog menu and the time the cast dialog pops up is like half a minute. By that time, I have copied the URL and navigated the current tab. Of course, you could argue that docs should just integrate with cast and figure out that you're casting and offer to open the link in the current tab instead..

Re "half a minute" - are you referring to the time it takes to bring up the Cast dialog, or the time it takes after you choose to cast the new tab before it starts to show up on the remote display? In either case that is not expected. There should also be a Cast icon that appears in your toolbar (or the overflow menu) when you're actively casting that should shortcut the time it takes to get the dialog to appear.

Sorry for the long delay. I'm referring to the time from when my profile icon appears in the GVC to when the pixels from my tab appear in the VC.

Ah, that is a different issue that's related to Hangouts specifically. +cc bojana for triage.

Not sure if there was a followup on this, but a couple of things: - We're rewriting the Cast dialog in native code which will make it much more responsive. - It should be possible to switch the tab being cast with two clicks: one to open the dialog, and another to change the source of the tab being cast. Let us know if the new dialog, shipping in M69, works better for this use case. |
