Issue descriptionSteps to reproduce the problem: 1. Updated to Chrome version 58 Suggested content was previously hidden and disabled. What is the expected behavior? Suggested content on the new tab page should remain hidden / disabled. Also, there should be an easy way to disable suggested content on the new tab page or in main settings IMO. What went wrong? chrome://flags/#enable-ntp-popular-sites shows "Disabled", but suggested content on the new tab page has reappeared in the form of news articles after updating the Chrome app to version 58. Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 58.0.3029.83 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.0.1 Flash Version:

Hi, thank you for your report! Unfortunately, chrome://flags are meant only for testing and development and, therefore, we do not provide any guarantees there. However, dgn@ works on disabling suggestions and may tell your more.

About disabling suggested content: you can disable all suggestions coming from Google servers (search and url from omnibox, articles from new tab page) via the "Search and site suggestions" toggle under Privacy settings.

About the #enable-ntp-snippets issue, it's fixed in the other bug you filed: issue 739584 . Closing this then.

Hmm, "Search and site suggestions" was already unchecked when the remote suggestions started appearing on the NTP. Perhaps this setting did not correctly apply to the NTP suggestions upon updating?

The new behaviour of the flag should only apply on Chrome 59. I see your report mentions Chrome 58. Is that fixed when you update?

Yes, it seems to be fixed in 59. With remote-suggestions flag set to default it is not showing suggestions when site suggestions is unchecked. Thanks, |
