Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/59.0.3071.29 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Move the mouse over a bookmark, extension or button on the menu bar, or a link on a web page 2. While the mouse if over the link, the text box that appears with text is empty 3. What is the expected behavior? Normally when the mouse is placed over one of the above, there is a little text area that appears with text, like the URL on links, or "Home" on the menu bar button or the name of an extension while hovering over an extension icon on the menu bar. What went wrong? When this text area from hover over appears, the space is empty, there is no text. Did this work before? Yes 58, the last one Chrome version: 59.0.3071.29 Channel: beta OS Version: 17.04 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 25.0 r0 I say it did work on v58, but it did appear empty on rare occasions. I did not report as it was not too frequent and when it did happen, I could move the mouse away and back again and it would display as expected. I am unable to capture this on screenshot, the area that is blank is not ending up on the screenshot.

Unable to reproduce this issue using #59.0.3071.36 on Linux Ubuntu as per the steps mentioned in comment #0 @brianjzech: Could you please find the attached screen cast and launch a new profile under chrome://settings with no apps and extensions for further investigation. Thanks,

A new profile did not change this. It also did not change from normal mode to incognito mode. I have tried to use Screencastify as you have for the video, but it does not capture the hover over text area at all... I might be missing an option. I am considering completely removing Chrome including the profiles and settings. Then installing it again. Do you think this could help resolve the problem? I would prefer not to, but if it might help I will go through the process.

@sandeepkumars -- I have removed Chrome beta including configuration. At that time, there were no versions of Chrome installed and I verified that all google-chrome folders in .config were no longer there and deleted manually what was existing. I then installed google-chrome-beta from repository. After install, check on this issue was the same, the text areas were all blank. Additionally, I then installed google-chrome-stable from the same repository. On this version, the text areas all displayed as expected, with the appropriate text in them. I wonder then... is there an issue with the PPA with the beta version, or is it the beta version itself?
