Dominic, could you please take a look immediately. I am not sure how to repro this bug.

We are planning a stable refresh soon, would really appreciate a quick turn around.

Is it maybe talking about the feature where you select text, and then choose Edit > Speech > Start Speaking?

Just tried on Chrome 59, seems to work.

There's also System Preferences > Accessibility > Speech > Speak Selected text when the key is pressed, but that should do the same thing as Edit > Speech > Start Speaking?

Also, fwiw, @lpalmaro uses this feature a lot, so cc'ing her.

But otherwise without more info it's not clear what to do.

Unless it's talking about VoiceOver, but I'm not noticing anything broken there either.

Without more info or a repro, not sure what to do.

Other bug turned out to be a bug in macOS where it can't handle having no system voices installed.

Users shouldn't delete all system voices.

Hi there!
I was asked to comment on this issue since I'm having it on MacOS 10.12.4 after updating from Chrome 57.x to 58.0.3029.81. As dmazz... wrote it is about the MacOS built in Text to Speech feature activating via menu (Edit > Speech > Start Speaking) There is just no more Speech using it in Chrome 58. Luckily using Chrome 59 solved that problem so it seems to be solved. But don't hesitate to ask for further information on this.

I've been communicating with Johnny- Community Specialist and a number of other users to figure out why speech isn't working in google chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit). So far no answers. Ongoing issue from April 23rd. Are there any updates on what we as end users can do to have this fixed?

This seems to be a macOS issue? See https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=716627#c7 .
Hi I have the same problem with the Speech Dictation option on Macbook Pro 2016 with Chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit)
it only work with keyboard shortcut OPT+ESC but it doesn't work with mouse right-click> Speech> Start speaking.
I'm having the same or a very similar issue.

OSX Yosemite. When I select text on a website and use my mac's built in text reader, rather than reading the text it reads the websites name.

This isn't an issue on safari.

 alexbainesbuffery@googlemail.com - please file a new bug.
