Absolute path is required I think for "import_bookmarks_from_file". If absolute path fixes it, it'd be up to enterprise team to decide whether they'd like to allow and implement file-only path in install dir (makes sense to me).

ok i'll try that tommorrow for the bookmarks. what about the quick launch shortcut setting not working?
,
Apr 26 2017
ok that's the bookmarks working now. just need to sort the quick launch shortcut problem.
,

Great! For quick launch shortcut, can you attach the chrome_installer.log file from %TEMP%?
,
Apr 27 2017
see attached log

Gab, I hope you will be ok owning this bug until it is resolved or another owner is needed to make changes.

Looks like it's just not picking up your master_prefs, is your file named "master_preferences" and dropped in the install directory besides chrome.exe? If so, can you: 1) Uninstall everything 2) Delete chrome_installer.log 3) Add --verbose-logging to the installer command-line and/or "verbose_logging": true in your master_preferences's "distribution" block. 4) Reinstall the way you have been 5) Repro your problem (up to the point where the Quick Launch shortcut is incorrectly added).

it is applying every other item in the master preferences though, so that would suggest it is picking up the file? and yes the file is called "master_preferences" and is placed next to chrome.exe

Ok, then I will need a clean verbose log as described above.

here you go

also, i was searching and found issue 174465 . this was also about this, and it was mentioned it might be a registry entry forcing the icon to re-create?
,
Apr 28 2017
This log doesn't mention creating Quick Launch shortcut, so looks like it worked?
,
Apr 28 2017
the quick launch shortcut was still created

To be clear, what do you mean by "quick launch shortcut"? Do you mean taskbar? Or truly quick launch (quick launch bar is an XP concept which is not visible by default on Windows 7).
,
Apr 28 2017
If you mean taskbar, then you want "do_not_create_taskbar_shortcut": true.
,
Apr 28 2017
this is windows 7 though? so the icon on the taskbar IS the quick launch shortcut?
,
Apr 28 2017
Well it's not the same terminology wise... you can technically bring back the XP-style Quick Launch shortcut on Win7 and that's what this code refers to. What you want is "do_not_create_taskbar_shortcut": true.

yes that seems to have done the trick. all sorted now. is there a setting to force the chrome window to be maximized?
,
May 1 2017
Ok great, everything is WAI then. For maximizing I'm not sure, you can try to mimic what chrome stores in %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Preferences when shutdown from a maximized state in "browser" -> "window_placement".
