Keyboard stops working periodically, Android dev-chrome

Project Member Reported by alyssar@google.com, Apr 24 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 59.0.3068.4
OS: android (7.1.2; Pizel build N2G47e)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Unfortunately not reproducible as far as I know.
Several times a week the keyboard simply stops working in dev chrome.
I can press keys, but they don't add to whatever text field I am trying to type in.
Possibly similar to crbug/530491 but given it's on android, dev-chrome I'm concerned it's a new more serious bug which will roll to stable if unaddressed so I'll let you folks decide if it should be duped away.
The only fix I've found is to restart Chrome (swiping the process away). Context switching out and in does not work. Exiting text box and bringing the keyboard up also does not work.

Given this is not reproducible but does seem to happen fairly regularly, if you folks give me some additional debug steps I'd be happy to gather more information.

What is the expected result?
Pressing keys results in letters on my screen.

What happens instead?
There is no way to add to the text input.

For graphics-related bugs, please copy/paste the contents of the about:gpu
page at the end of this report.
Hmm, it could be graphics related (letters hidden but not being updated) but I rather suspect it's not. I'll check next time.

Update, since I had this happen again yesterday.

It's not all of chrome which loses keyboard input, it's only one tab. If I open a new tab, I can type there just fine. Going back to the wedged tab it was still wedged. Keypresses were definitely registered by the keyboard (the letter popped up) but didn't show on screen.

I was hoping to have it still broken in office so local chrome team could play but 15h later my site credentials had expired, and on page refresh the form I'd been typing in was reloaded and the keyboard worked again. Hm...

Thanks for the report.

This issue will be fixed in the next M59 Dev release, which is this week. Please comment in issue 712243 if you're still seeing the issue then.
