This is really weird. If you recall, when you focused the omnibox to enter "test", did you do so in a way that made the text "Search Google" appear in the omnibox before you typed "test", or did you simply enter "test" in an omnibox without such a prompt? That may help me narrow down what's going on here.

I still can't make heads or tails of this. So frustrating. :-( I cannot repro it. Everything in the about:omnibox output looks right. Running a fresh top-of-tree build, I visited vsynctester.com a number of times in multiple tabs so that my visit counts match yours. Typing "test" doesn't crash for me. I tried getting the search string "test" into my search query history, and trying the same thing. It still doesn't crash... My about:omnibox output looks effectively identical to yours. Can you manage to repro this on a fresh profile (not logged in, etc.)? If so, please post the steps here.

When a fresh mind, I re-watched the video and think I know what's going on here. Thanks for the report! You have bookmarked a Google search page for the string "test". This is being returned from BookmarkProvider with a score of 970. On the input "tes", Search provider is getting the suggestion for the search for "test" at a lower score. (On my machine, it gets a score of 601.) When you type the final "t", we have two identical matches, one from bookmarks provider (score 970) and one from search provider (score 601, used until the server suggest request returns). All bookmarks provider results are not allowed to be the default match. Yet, when we combine these two matches, the bookmark provider match wins because it scores higher. Thus, we end up with a result set without a valid default match. As such, this is a specific case of bug 542780. Merging into there. |
