rather frustratingly I can't reproduce this on my other machine using same site - https://www.theguardian.com/us - the fonts are fine, so seems to be something to do with my desktop.

Using the web font "Guardian Text Egyptian Web". Do you have a HiDPI screen on either of your windows machines?

The Guardian website uses web fonts with a gasp version 0 table, which we plan to disregard for deciding the rendering mode. Currently, the wrong rendering mode (asymmetric) is choosen, which makes them appear blocky.

Add SK_IGNORE_GASP_VERSION_CHECK to Skia build.

This will hold out a Skia change until after the change has rolled into
Chromium for rebaselining. The Skia change can currently be found at

This can also be considered spun off from  issue 706792  and fixes the remaining gasp version 0 table issue. 

I verified this on a local build, but we should wait for the Canary to quickly verify on theguardian.co.uk or http://roettsch.es/guardian.html. Adding Merge-Request-59 to bring this to the release managers attention early.
