Dropdown menus not working

Reported by martin.e...@googlemail.com, Apr 20 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/58.0.3029.81 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Search a site with Dropdown menu, e.g. ubuntu.com
2. Click one of the dropdown items
3. Menu hides and click is ignored, no clicked item is opening

What is the expected behavior?
The page for the clicked item will open

What went wrong?
Dropdown (javascript/css) menus/submenus not working when clicked

Did this work before? Yes before 57.x

Chrome version: 58.0.3029.81  Channel: stable
OS Version:
Flash Version:

This was already reported in issue #708473 . I am using fluxbox. Tried with fluxbox 1.3.5, fluxbox 1.3.7 and current fluxbox git branch, all with same result. But it works without trouble in Gnome, just Fluxbox seems affected.

Sorry, forgot the OS Version:
Debian Jessie, custom Kernel 4.9.18 #1 SMP Wed Apr 12 07:53:18 CEST 2017 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Looping to Dave, for further inputs since he fixed the issue: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=701637
martin.eisenbarth@ Are you still seeing this issue in latest chrome stable -58.0.3029.110
Yes, i can confirm this issue still present in Chrome stable version "58.0.3029.110 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit)". If I start Chrome with the flag "--disable-features=SendMouseLeaveEvents" the problem is gone (as reported in https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=701637).

The same applies to "59.0.3071.61 (Offizieller Build) beta (64-Bit)" and "60.0.3100.0 (Offizieller Build) dev (64-Bit)".
I still see this issue in version 59.0.3071.115 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit)
This affects me as well, same symptoms/timeline of problem. As the reporter says, it affects me when I use fluxbox. If I switch to Gnome 3, then drop downs work ok. This is a serious issue, albeit only seems to affect those that use fluxbox which is not a large number of people. I would also note that this bug occurred following updates of Google Chrome, NOT updates of fluxbox I believe (i.e., Google Chrome worked fine in fluxbox until about version 57.x as the bug reporter noted).

My current OS: Fedora 26 Workstation (4.11.11-300.fc26.x86_64)
fluxbox version: fluxbox-1.3.7-1.fc26.src.rpm
chrome version:
Google Chrome	60.0.3112.78 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision	f901216ec1e383df23283fec9bc8f4e8b67aa0fb-refs/branch-heads/3112@{#671}
OS	Linux
JavaScript	V8 6.0.286.44

Could this be related to the graphics card? I am running three machines, each one with Debian Jessie and Fluxbox as my primary desktop. Two of them do not show symptoms, just one machine has this issue.
It works on Lenovo X230 with integrated Intel HD graphics, it works on a custom build PC with dedicated Nvidia graphics card, but it does not work on my Lenovo P50 (just having the integrated Intel HD graphic card enabled, but this one also has a dedicated Nvidia Quadro m2000m with Xeon CPU). If it would be helpful I can provide more details.
This bug has serious negative impact with the new gmail UI. Left side menus use these sorts of drop downs to expand user labels and they can not be accessed while this bug persists.

Over to nzolghadr@ to prioritize/assign a person.
Meanwhile I abandoned Debian and switched to Funtoo where the bug is not occuring when using Fluxbox.
I don't seem to be able to repro the issue on Ubuntu. Reporter do you mind take a screen capture so I can better understand what the problem looks like?
ligimole@ do you have a way of reproducing the issue on your side?
I can not reproduce it anymore. Currently I am using 66.0.3359.117 (Developer Build) (64-bit) on Funtoo. But william...@ is still affected. Thx!
I'm still using Fedora 26 Workstation (4.15.6-200.fc26.x86_64)
fluxbox version: fluxbox-1.3.7-1.fc26.x86_64
chrome version:
Google Chrome	65.0.3325.146 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision	f926414266f7aecb5ec1bf1b5f93f8716976ceef-refs/branch-heads/3325@{#669}
OS	Linux

Attached is an example of the problem. When I hover my mouse over the "You" menu, a drop-down menu appears, then if I move my mouse down to "Camera Roll" ,as seen in the photo, and left click, the click is not applied to the menu item, instead the click is applied to the splash ad behind the menu. In other words, mouse clicks on these hover drop-down menus act as if the menu doesn't exist and any mouse click is instead applied to any html element behind the menu. I hope I made that clear.

One more quick note. Using the command line option "--disable-features=SendMouseLeaveEvents" was a workaround to this issue.
William, do you mind also trying it on a newer version of Chrome with your setup and report the results?
Well I just updated to the latest versions available for my distro:
Fedora 26 Workstation (4.15.17-200.fc26.x86_64)
fluxbox version: fluxbox-1.3.7-1.fc26.x86_64
Google Chrome	66.0.3359.117 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision	7f59c28e25283df88e0c6ac8d8b2551d8c6ad93b-refs/branch-heads/3359@{#723}
OS	Linux
and now the problem is at the moment resolved. Thank you if you had anything to do with that.
