Not sure what the right label is for that dialog.

Thanks for the report. We're not able to reproduce this. Does this happen on all sites you visit, or just a particular site?
,
Apr 20 2017
Also, are you able to reproduce this if you start Chrome in Incognito mode (e.g. CTRL+Shift+N)?

Apr 21 2017
It fails on every site, doesn't work in Incognito either. It works fine on my Win10 desktop, the problem only occurs on my laptop
,
Apr 21 2017
Possibly related to Issue 711004 . Have you experimented with Web USB or Web Bluetooth on the laptop?
,
Apr 21 2017
i have looked at some of the demo pages for web usb and bluetooth. #enable-experimental-web-platform-features was enabled, I tried resetting all the flags to default (in both release and canary), but that didn't help I also tried disabling all extensions to no avail

Open chrome://settings/content, scroll down to the "USB Device" section and click "Manage". Do you see any devices listed there?
,
Apr 21 2017
nothing is listed

Unable to reproduce the issue on windows 7, 10 using chrome version 58.0.3029.81 and canary 60.0.3076.0 . able to open the site information pop up with out any issues. Please find the attached screen shot for the same. Request you once please try to upgrade chrome to latest stable and update the thread if the issue still persists. Thanks,
,
Apr 21 2017
Yep, I'm running the latest versions of both stable and canary, still doesn't work. Given it's happening in both versions, could it be profile related? I even tried resetting to defaults in canary which didn't help. If there's anything technical you need me to try or do, I can.

also clicking my name next to with windows controls doesn't open the account switching account dialog either
,
Apr 21 2017
Adding UI>Browser>Core and UI>Browser>Profiles as this looks like a more general issue with displaying popups. I assume that clicking the menu button works? I think that's a different kind of overlay window.
,
Apr 22 2017
yep, menu, nav and chromecast buttons still work
,
Apr 24 2017
Still unable to reproduce the issue on windows 7 using chrome version 58.0.3029.81. zac.spitzer@ Could you please once try the issue on new profile without any flags and extensions. Please update the thread if the issue still persists. Thanks,
,
Apr 25 2017
I tried following using a new epty profile https://www.chromium.org/developers/creating-and-using-profiles with ---disable-extensions but the problem remains?

Apr 29 2017
I tried creating a whole new windows profile and the problem persists
,
Apr 29 2017
actually, latest canary build now works 60.0.3083.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit)

Could you do the following in your normal profile? 1) Visit chrome://policy/ 2) Check "Show policies with no value set" 3) Look for DefaultPluginsSetting If the value is not 1, 2, or 3 (or Status is "Not set."), this is the same root cause as Issue 711004 , and the workaround is to ask your administrator to set DefaultPluginsSetting to a valid value in their admin interface.
,
Apr 29 2017
it was "not set", this is just on a personal machine, there's no administrator?
,
Apr 29 2017
the registry key doesn't exist on my machine https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#DefaultPluginsSetting

Hmm, I'm a bit at a loss here. Your issues sounds consistent with a user-data-dir specific issue. Could you try to launch Chrome with a custom user data dir? https://www.chromium.org/user-experience/user-data-directory
,
May 3 2017
I already tried an empty profile as per comment 20, it also happens under a whole new user profile under windows. It's Win10 home it it helps
,
May 3 2017
Zac: Sorry, I should have been more clear that I was asking for something different. An empty profile in the same browser instance still shares the commandline flags as the other profiles. A separate user data directory doesn't share anything stored by Chrome itself. Could you try the Window instructions at https://www.chromium.org/user-experience/user-data-directory ? > Windows > > To do this, add the --user-data-dir flag to chrome.exe, like this: chrome.exe --user-data-dir=c:\foo I believe you can add the flag to an executable or a shortcut using the dialog accessible from the context menu on Windows via right-click.
,
May 4 2017
i tried "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --user-data-dir="c:\temp\chrome-empty" and it launched a vanilla profile which still exhibits the problem
,
May 4 2017
Alright, interesting. Could you see if the commandline spews any errors? 1) Use the Start menu to run "cmd.exe" 2) Run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --user-data-dir="c:\temp\chrome-empty" --enable-logging=stderr --v=1 Could you send a screenshot of chrome://policy/ ? (Don't check the "Show policies with no value set" box.) If it does contain entries, the most relevant are Default*Setting (where * is "Plugins", "Geolocation", "JavaScript", etc.)

reillyg@: Are any of the log messages in the screenshot of comment #33 relevant to web USB permission code?
,
May 5 2017
Those log messages are normal on Windows. Opening the permissions popup will cause Chrome to start the USB service in the background but that happens asynchronously and shouldn't effect the UI. If it did I would expect the UI to lock up completely instead of failing in this specific way. I want to confirm with zac.spitzer that the account switcher still has this behavior in a fresh profile. Opening the account switcher won't activate the USB service and so you shouldn't get those log messages at all.
,
May 6 2017
Mine also not working (running Chrome on Windows 10 x64). The profile switching button also not working, too. In addition to that, when I uninstalling Chrome, an icon appear on the taskbar but with black thumbnail with title "Uninstall Google Chrome" and it never finish uninstalling. Kill the app via Task Manager makes Chrome app folder to delete but any settings, profiles... left exists. Reinstalling Chrome but the problem still occurs.
,
May 6 2017
account switcher still not opening, but nothing shows in the console when i clicked it
,
May 8 2017
The whole browser Window UI also hangs if I go to add a bookmark via the url bar star and click edit
,
May 8 2017
I'm going to guess that something is hanging the FILE thread. We might be able to figure out what if we collect a crash dump after the hang occurs assuming the UI isn't too frozen: 1. Make sure crash reporting is enabled in chrome://settings. 2. Click on the account switcher since that seems to trigger the hang without locking up the whole UI. 3. Type chrome://inducebrowsercrashforrealz into the omnibox and hit enter. 4. After Chrome crashes open it back up again and navigate to chrome://crashes and send us the Crash ID with the timestamp matching when you crashed the browser.

Crash ID b88e194c-2e34-4b24-b971-11bea95e83ab (Server ID: 383bec7e80000000) Crash report captured on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 1:52:58 PM, uploaded on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 1:57:16 PM === I think the browser is not hanging, instead it is because an invisible dialog that blocks the UI. I hit Esc key and the UI was responding again. And when I click the profile switcher button, although its seems do nothing but when I click in the region often takes place by the profile switcher panel, it does take me to the setting page.
,
May 9 2017
And, I also note that this version of Chrome is somewhat buggy. Its hang (the entire browser UI) when Internet connection is slow/ disconnected. And its also often hang aroung until I kill the "GPU Process" via Task Manager (the browser is totally not responding)
,
May 9 2017
The crash reports don't show a stuck thread. zac.spitzer, does the invisible dialog box theory hold for you as well?
,
May 10 2017
and it's all working again in Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit)
,
May 12 2017
Incidentally, I have a laptop here exhibiting exactly the same issue. Chrome 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit) Windows 10 Home [Version 10.0.15063] - Site information box does not appear - Profile switch button menu does not show Although I noticed the same behaviour as in Comment 41: "I think the browser is not hanging, instead it is because an invisible dialog that blocks the UI. I hit Esc key and the UI was responding again. And when I click the profile switcher button, although its seems do nothing but when I click in the region often takes place by the profile switcher panel, it does take me to the setting page."

Found another case, which I think is related: Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to https://gist.github.com/ 2. Select the primary text area for the gist's content 3. Enter anything, doesn't matter 4. Try to close the tab What would normally happen: This "leave or stay, unsaved changes etc." dialog would pop up. Instead nothing appears, but something takes focus, impossible to even switch tabs now. You can regain focus by pressing ESC. If you try to close the tab, and then press Enter, the tab gets closed, apparently because the dialog now gets confirmed correctly, although invisible. Looks like an issue with rendering/painting.
,
May 12 2017
My issues seems to be related/ same as this bug: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=717369# I am using Intel HD Graphics (Core i3 M350) on Windows 10 Creator. The problem did not occur on previous Windows version.
,
May 12 2017
Same here.. Affected device is an old Netbook running Windows 10 Home Creator's Update. 11,6" 1366x768 px powered by Intel GMA 4500MHD.
,
May 13 2017
it's no longer working for me again with Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit) this laptop has a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
,

Adding some Windows folks to help triage
,
May 17 2017
First things that come to my mind would be malware or graphics driver issues. The latter seems especially plausible when the three people who've said they're seeing this are all using Intel graphics. Maybe some kind of compositor change tripping over a driver bug or something?
,
May 18 2017
I get the following error on http://webglreport.com/?v=2
,
May 18 2017
I get the same error with the affected laptop, but I don't really think this is related. This is a test for WebGL 2, which is still pretty new and also not used for the UI of the browser, as far as I know. And the test result is positive for WebGL 1 (also seen here: https://get.webgl.org/). Another thing I discovered: The pop-up element from the Omnibox Translate feature also has the same problem. The element is invisible, but nonetheless there, just like the other broken UI elements. But for whatever reason, doing a simple 'window.alert' in JavaScript does work. (Example HTML file attached) I don't know, but this somehow seems to be affected by the layout, i.e. position and size of the UI element to draw seem to influence the rendering.
,
May 25 2017
Same problem here. Intel HD 4000 Chrome 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit) Windows 10 (Creators Update) For some reasons I had "Override software rendering list" enabled (chrome://flags). After deactivation everything works well. Maybe this is the case for some of the affected users, too.
,
May 26 2017
I think we can rule out the pageinfo problem. Removing UI>Browser>Bubbles>PageInfo component label

Probably fixed with Chrome 59.0.3071.86. Cannot reproduce with that version. Maybe others should try affected instances as well.
,
Jun 6 2017
Yup, it's now working for me in 59.0.3071.86
,

Thanks for the update, closing the issue as per above comments.
