I don't think there's much the network stack team can do about crashes in random third-party dll's injected into our memory process. I don't believe that's a standard Windows dll, but instead is part of "netratingsnetsight" (Some sort of Nielson ratings thing?) Perhaps you should probably contact them.

Components: -Internals>Network
Also, I don't see any network code in that stack trace, so removing the network label. If I'm missing something, feel free to add it back, with an explanation as to why you think this is a network issue.

eroman@chromium said "Based on how many users it is affecting (a handful per release), doesn't sound like there is much to do beyond closing the bug WontFix

As already mentioned, the root problem is third party software, not code we control. In this case it is the NielsonOnline software running stuff inside of Chrome and crashing (presumably interception hooks used by their tracking for viewing/browsing habits).

No clue how this software is distributed, or if these users are aware they have it, let alone that it is crashing Chrome... There is a mechanism for blacklisting malware from loading DLLs in Chrome which could offer one remediation for these crashes.

I found a developer at Nielsen to pass this to. Can we remove Restrict View Google? I don't think there's anything personally identifiable in the stack trace.
Issue 744571 has been merged into this issue.

This crash appears in current canary- 61.0.3159.0 in a slightly different magic signature : msdetour64help.dll] std::exception::operator=

Currently its the #1 browser crash with 17 reports with 15 unique clients.

Link to the list of the builds:

Did not see any active investigation in internal report - b/37490109. So requesting sheriff to followup and expedite the fix.

Removing RSVG as per #8.

I got this response from Nielsen online

"Good news! I've received work from Anthony that they've found the root cause of the issue, and they have a fix. The release date is still TBD, but he advised he expects it to be soon as this is an issue for Chrome using panelists. "

They responded, "The fix has been included in our next release's code base, but the date for that isn't known yet. I would expect it sometime around August / Sept, but I'll reach out when it's finalized."
