[Component Request] Blink>NFC

Project Member Reported by jyasskin@chromium.org, Apr 17 2017

Issue description

1] Component Name: Blink>NFC

Guideline 1 (Clarity): Component name should be descriptive beyond the core
project team

Using the term from https://w3c.github.io/web-nfc/

Guideline 2 (Permanence): Component names should describe features/
functions and not team names, code locations, etc..., which are more
subject to change and make the hierarchy less predictable for people
triaging issues.

Using the term from https://w3c.github.io/web-nfc/

Guideline 3 (Specific): Components are meant to explicitly track functional
work areas. If you are trying to track a Proj(ect) or an on-going effort
(e.g. Hotlist-Conops), please instead request a label for a (Proj- or
Hotlist-)

Web NFC is a functional area.

Guideline 4 (Discoverable/ Predictable): Components should be parented
where people would logically expect to find them (i.e. follow product
decomposition when naming versus team decomposition)

Web APIs go in Blink>.

2] Parent Component (e.g. Blink, UI>Browser, etc...): Blink

3] Description of Component: Issues related to the Web NFC API https://w3c.github.io/web-nfc/

4] Admin/ Owner: device-dev@chromium.org

5] Please specify what triage practices will be followed for the component
(i.e. what team will do it and how frequently).

Device API team triages, all of blink is moving to 1 week SLA.

Would Blink>WebNFC be more intuitive or is NFC the generally used name for this space?
We already use the name Blink>Foo for other WebFoo APIs such as Web Bluetooth and WebUSB. I think it makes sense to use the shorter name internally.

Comment 3 by sshru...@google.com, Apr 18 2017

Good point. We also use Blink>WebFoo for several other components. So, what is your opinion on which of these (Blink>WebNFC vs. Blink>NFC) is more intuitive for reporters when they are looking to file issues against this API, so issues get to your component sooner?
NFC is the name of the technology and what I think people will be searching for. If we set the description to "Issues related to the Web NFC implementation (https://w3c.github.io/web-nfc/)." in the description then a search for "Web NFC" will also find the category.

That answers my question, thank you very much! Created the component, please verify that it looks right and close this issue.

Thanks for creating this! One minor nit. We've been removing the phrase "Issues related to the " to keep the auto-complete text short and sweet and since components are implicitly collections of issues.

SGTM, closing this issue. Please re-open if there is any remaining work.
