ChromeOS and browser crashes multiple times per day (no definite trigger) |
|||||
Issue description
Chrome Version: 57.0.2987.146 (This has been happening on older versions as well, I estimate it started 1-2 months ago. I recently upgraded, to no improvement)
Chrome OS Version: 9202.64.0 (Official Build) stable-channel chell
Chrome OS Platform:
vendor | Hewlett-Packard
name | Chell
version | rev4
family | Google_Glados

Please specify Cr-* of the system to which this bug/feature applies (add
the label below).
(I'm unsure what to choose here :().
Steps To Reproduce:
(1) I'm unable to deterministically reproduce this. The best I got is: use laptop normally.
Expected Result:
I expect the shell to not randomly crash.
Actual Result:
When using the system, at random points in time (usually doing something, like opening a new tab), the screen will go black. After a little while, it will jump back to the login screen. All signed in users are logged out. When logging back in, Chrome pops up and tells me it had a crash, asking me whether I want to recover my tabs (the top butter bar).
I'm nearly always logged in with two accounts. First my regular corp account and from that one I log in to my personal account.
How frequently does this problem reproduce? (Always, sometimes, hard to
reproduce?)
I can't reproduce it deterministically, but when using my laptop for a day of work (which I normally only do when I'm WFH, like now), it happens a couple of times a day (today 3 times).
What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is
it?
The impact is that I lose ~1 minute of productivity every time this happens (it's happened 3 times today) and I lose the state I had filled in on webpages. I also lose my SSH connections. I also lose my concentration.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screen shot or
log if possible.
When looking at chrome://version, I see a non-null value where I don't expect any:

Which other log files could I supply to diagnose this issue? If required, I give full permission to view my (historical) system state for the purpose of diagnosing this issue, should you have/need it.

It's happening quite a lot (sometimes multiple times per day). It happened on Wednesday (2017-05-10) while presenting my screen (afternoon, I bet around 14:50 CEST). Where can I even look at my own crash reports? I can't click on them in chrome://crashes. I'm quite sure that the following crash ID belongs to this issue: 07b8a9a8d0000000. I really hope someone can do somethign with this. Does this look like a hardware bug?
