Capture screenshot return an empty image

Reported by i...@andreamoro.eu, Apr 17 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open a site
2. Enter into mobile mode
3. Expand the ellipsis
4. Click the "Capture screenshot"

What is the expected behavior?
I was expecting somewhat the current windows state screenshot, but a blank / empty image is returned.

The same happens with Canary, where the Capture whole page screenshot is available (and it doesn't work too).

What went wrong?
The returned image is empty

Did this work before? N/A

Any specific site this doesn't work on? Which device do you emulate?

Comment 5 by i...@andreamoro.eu, Apr 18 2017

Ok recorded a video here to demonstrate the problem. Though I just realised that the capture works but only when the device mode is set to responsive.

I was under the impression that was meant to work with all different devices, am I wrong?

Hmm... This works on my mac, chrome version 57.0.2987.133, www.test.it, iPhone6 with device frame visible. Also works on canary version 60.

My mac is on 10.12.3 though, as well as mac from #c2. Maybe the problem is in mac version? Could you please attach what chrome://gpu says?

Adding GPU team, maybe they could help. We are doing readbacks from the surface (see RenderWidgetHostImpl::GetSnapshotFromBrowser).

Tested an array of site on a different mac and everything seems fine (Screenshot captured for responsive and non-responsive sites), so it is a computer problem.

I've been experiencing strange issues since a while (e.g. Google Map terribly slow). Is there anything to "reset" chrome and start fresh to ascertain whether it's a compromised package or the generally the computer?

Thanks for confirmation. I will close the bug as WontFix then.

Regarding Chrome reset, see for example https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/vE0K9wPvfYo
