Automatically-opened browser window is unfocused |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionGoogle Chrome 58.0.3029.68 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) Platform 9334.43.0 (Official Build) beta-channel caroline Firmware Version Google_Caroline.7820.286.0 I'm not sure how easy this is to repro, but I've seen it a few times now and figured I should file a bug. 1. Sign into google.com account and use it for a while with a single browser window. 2. Additionally sign into gmail.com account, which has no saved tabs to restore. 3. Empty browser window that gets automatically opened on gmail.com desktop isn't focused, and I can't type a URL or hit Ctrl-L to focus the omnibox until I click on it. I think it's a relatively new change for us to open a browser window automatically when there are no tabs to restore, and I'm not sure that I like it (since when I hit Alt-2 to open Gmail, it loads in a new tab instead of the original blank one, and I need to manually close the original one). But irrespective of that, we should focus the browser window. Maybe there's a race. I don't think I saw this before the 57/58 timeframe.

> Sorry, I didn't understand what "no saved tabs to restore" > means. Can you elaborate exactly what you did? I mean that session restore didn't restore anything and I just got a single browser window with an empty tab. > I don't understand this (or don't know this feature) either. > What is "gmail.com desktop"? My personal account's desktop.

I just saw this again on the same device. The automatically-opened browser window on my personal desktop had a light-gray, unfocused border. You usually can't unfocus a browser window when it's the only thing that's open, so I assume there's a race.

I *think* I've only seen it when adding a second profile, but I'm not certain it can't also happen when a browser window is automatically opened when signing into the primary profile. (Automatically opening a window when there are no tabs to restore is a recent change, right? Was that intentional or accidental?)

> Automatically opening a window when there are no tabs to restore is a recent change I'm not aware of such change. +warx@ who worked on session restore recently. Looks like the difference is that when you close the browser window using tab close button. If you closed the last browser window using caption's close button, that window gets restored. (test on 42)

I think I see this (unfocused window) every time I sign in a secondary account now, and on multiple devices (stable-channel samus and beta-channel caroline).

I could see this, too. It also appears on M-57 stable.

I didn't see it when I tried again just now: Google Chrome 59.0.3071.82 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) Platform 9460.57.0 (Official Build) beta-channel caroline The omnibox in the automatically-opened browser window on my second profile's desktop was focused. I'll reopen if I notice this again -- thanks for taking a look! |
