CFM showing gray bars. Leaving the meeting and rejoining fixes it.

Project Member Reported by roy...@google.com, Apr 14 2017

Issue description

We suspect cameras sometimes don't get properly initialized and that its sending 1 pixel back to the CFM unit which shows up as two gray bars on the screen.

Separating this from crbug.com/693680 (that bug was about camera detection). This one is probably about camera initialization after detection.

Background in
1) https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=693680#c33
2) https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/attachment?aid=273713&inline=1

Customer is reporting that this issue is reproducible on 56.

Royans - if the camera is unplugged/replugged OR the CFM reboots, does the issue go away or persist? Can we repro in dev mode? If yes, how?

Pawel/WuCheng/Benson - any ideas on how we could go about detecting a camera in a bad state?

Comment 2 by roy...@google.com, Apr 14 2017

Reboot fixes it for sure. I'm checking with the customer if they have tried reattaching the camera.
Royans - I also assume this occurs on all ports of the device?

Comment 4 by roy...@google.com, Apr 14 2017

I haven't asked customers about this, but we can ask. I don't think this happens frequent enough for them to test all the ports. They have ruled out other peripherals already.

Logs from two rooms here.
SFw 5-C11 - Noticed at 10am on 4/12
SFE 12-C03 - Noticed at 10am on 4/14

Summary: CFM showing gray bars. Leaving the meeting and rejoining fixes it. (was: CFM showing gray bars. requires reboot)
Customer noticed that leaving the meeting fixes it. So reattaching the hardware is not a requirement.
Cc: mnilsson@chromium.org
Royans - does this only happen at the start of a meeting (where previous meetings were successful)? Or does it happen *rarely* on the first meeting after a reboot?

Find a bug to dupe this against. See crbug.com/693680 ?

Comment 8 by tovep@google.com, Jul 4 2017

Let's reassess this when 59 is out. Close or dupe at that time?
let's leave it open until we confirm no reports on 59 - it's fine to stay assigned to me so i remember to come back to it

Hi team,

I have a customer with the same issue, wherein the fix would be disconnecting and then rejoin the hangout session. Also this happens in different Chromebox for meetings and is happening randomly.

Chrome v59
Device: Dell Chromebox 3010

rarel - can we get any logs from this customer following repro? do you have a rough rate of occurrence?

Comment 13 by rarel@google.com, Aug 31 2017

Hello,

Thanks for the response, I have already asked the customer for some logs. I'm just waiting for them to get the logs. Also I have provided this link to the customer for their CfM devices logs https://support.google.com/a/answer/2978955?hl=en.

I will put the logs here once I get them.

Thanks!
