[Feedback] - Users not able to upload images on Facebook using Chrome

Project Member Reported by jainabhi...@chromium.org, Apr 13 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 57.0.2987.133 (Few reports on Canary as well)
OS: Windows and Mac

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Visit facebook.com
(2) Create a new comment and try to upload a photo

What is the expected result?
New comment with a photo should be posted on Facebook

What happens instead?
Users see error message like shown in attached screenshots
This could very well be another Facebook experiment but users suggest that this issue happens only on Chrome and not in latest version of Firefox or Safari.

+ pbommana@, could you please try to repro on M57?

jainabhishek@, could you please ask user to repro on M58 Beta version #58.0.3029.68 if possible?

As for error message on Facebook page like the screenshots, can we ask users to contact Facebook? It's not reproducible locally, and it's hard to understand what's the error precisely.

As for crashes like product forum posts, please ask Crash IDs.

Raised this bug because users can still upload images on Facebook using other browsers. Some user comments
1. I am not able to upload any images to my Wall and I have cleared cache, updated Flash and clean temp files.
2. I can not upload photos to Facebook, while Edge, it succeeds.
3. Chrome won't upload photos to facebook, error message is saying photo is not valid please try again. Same error on husbands computer but upload works when using I.E. Have not had any problem with chrome before and the error started for us yesterday
4. Recently updated to Windows 10 (latest version). When attempting to post a jpg from my local HD using Chrome to Facebook, I continually get the attached error message. I am able to post jpg's using Firefox and Edge. What might be causing this issue?
5. Not able to upload any photos to Facebook. I am able to do so with Firefox

Attaching an image that we got in one of feedback reports in case you want to test. Image does not have PII but please feel free to delete if required.

Is there any other info that we should collect from users ?

I keep getting this message when I try to send a pic on messenger. "Please try again. Make sure you are uploading a valid photo." This just started today.

Reading comments like this makes me feel if Chrome changes image while uploading somehow

There is a similar post in Japanese product forum too, and the poster said the issue didn't happen in Incognito Window.

We're not able to repro this. Image uploads to facebook are working fine.

We tried on [Win7 6.1.7601 SP1, Mac 10.12.3 and linux ubuntu14.04] on chrome 57.0.2987.133 using the same image given in step # 8.

We'll try in win10 as well and update. Thanks

Not able to repro on Win 10 build(14393.953) as well.

Image uploads and sending image thro' messenger works fine on Chrome 57.0.2987.133

Rechecked this issue on Windows 10 (Version 1703 OS Build 15063.13) and MAC 10.12.4 using chrome versions 57.0.2987.133 & Canary 60.0.3072.0. Unable to reproduce the issue .

Followed the below steps:
=========================
1) Launched both mentioned chrome versions, tried uploading images both from home page & Wall page. Images uploaded successfully and was able to Post it on Wall.
2) Tried uploading and posting images with size more than 7 MB.

In both the cases, no errors were displayed. Images uploaded fine. Attached screen shots for the same:

Thanks.!

Could be related to this? I saw some users discussing this on the Chrome subreddit last week: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/6552fn/psa_disable_ublock_origin_on_facebook_if_you_are/
I've forgotten my password so I can't log into Facebook... What APIs are being used here? Are there reports of this on any other sites?

Do users still report this issue with Google Chrome 58?

* The "Error" message issue on Facebook looks an extension issue. We need no action.

* The crash issue might be Issue 703303 .

If we don't get more information, I'll close this issue without any action.

we still see some feedback about this issue but we cannot get any meaningful information from these reports. We dont capture filename that was used while uploading or extensions installed on Chrome.

We will create another bug or route users to 703303 if required.
Please feel free to close the bug
