Links using Office URI Schemes won't open on Mac

Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36 Example URL: https://jsfiddle.net/67y2sc09/1/ Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Create a anchor element with a href according to Office URI Schemes https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn906146.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 2. Click the link What is the expected behavior? Links beginning with ms-word: should open in Microsoft Word. What went wrong? Microsoft Word does not open and nothing else happends. Did this work before? Yes Chrome version: 57.0.2987.133 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.12.4 Flash Version: I've only been able to reproduce this on macOS. It works as expected on Windows 10 with the same version of Google Chrome.

Punting this out of the network stack team's queue - this should probably be handled by the Mac team.

I believe the app, in this case Microsoft Word, has to register the scheme with macOS in order for the link to work. Do the ms-word: links work in Safari?

It does work in Safari and Firefox on macos.

lgrey@ - can you look into this when you have some spare cycles. We may have to do something special to figure out what schemes have been registered and take action on them.

I hit this issue as well with Inboard app recently: https://inboardapp.com/url_scheme/

Hi there, This still is known issue that impacts apps like https://inboardapp.com/ - our extension is unable to retrieve URL and then open Inboard app correctly. Please consider fixing this so developers like us around the world continue use this feature :)
