I was running on a fresh install of LM 17.3 This had fixed Google
Calendar problem.
But, GMail still complained:

Could not go to higher version of Chromium under 17.3

Ran Update in Place and went to LM 18 Sarah
GMail is now happy
Everything seems fine as of now.
Problems resolved
Chromium is now: Version 57.0.2987.98 Built on Ubuntu , running on
LinuxMint 18
Thanks for your help.
