Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Install Chrome apps/extensions on a Windows PC 2. Install Chrome OS apps/extensions on a Chromebook 3. Open Chrome on the Windows PC again What is the expected behavior? Each device should have its own profile (or in the Sync menu -- selectable apps/extensions) to avoid unnecessary downloads/installations on each new device. What went wrong? Devices sync every app/extension even not made for the OS Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 57.0.2987.133 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Device profiles (chromebook gets this app, windows chrome gets that app, etc...) or an "advanced" sync menu in chrome to select each app individually depending on which device I am using.

Seems this is a feature request, marking it as 'Untriaged' to get more inputs from dev. Thank you!!

This is a feature request on either the Sync or Extensions team, I'm not sure which. IIUC, the request is to be able to selectively sync certain extensions only (as opposed to syncing all or none). Adding a couple sync/extensions folk to comment.

It looks like in the past we've decided to not implement something fancier, and advising to disable syncing extensions on devices that cause problems. See issue 303311 and issue 277298 . However, reading > Devices sync every app/extension even not made for the OS Are apps/extensions annotated with which platforms they work on? Are we erroneously installing/showing things that should be hidden?

I'm being told that apps/extensions should be platform independent. I think the general guidance we can offer is going to be the same as issue 303311 , where you can always disable syncing of extensions.
