Right Click crashes Chrome

Reported by domainw...@gmail.com, Apr 7 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Google Chrome
2. Right Click anywhere on screen, or try to access the settings.
3. Google chrome crashes to desktop, closing all other instances of Google Chrome on that machine.

What is the expected behavior?
Crashes all instances of Google Chrome on the machine.

What went wrong?
I don't know, all I know is this is a pretty annoying issue for trying to do anything with the browser.

Crashed report ID: dfdf0dbb-4882-4fc3-83ac-6a10d1e6505b

How much crashed? Whole browser

Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 57.0.2987.133 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

May be related to Plugins or the local machine, have reinstalled chrome and that didn't accomplish anything. Have only 3 plugins, so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Fixed by restarting computer.

A bug is shown if a 3D game or similar application is running in the background. For example, you played and went through the alt + tab

Comment 6 by maitre...@gmail.com, Apr 10 2017

I confirm what "pokerm...@gmail.com" said.

I've also started a topic on Google Chrome Help Forum and here on Monorail.

I've found that when my game (L4D2) is not in fullscreen but windowed, it doesn't bug.
Hi all!

This is Nicolas from Chrome-es.

We've a lot of reports with this issue:

- If the game is on Windowed mode, Chrome didn't crash.
- Games: League Of Legends,World of warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone
- Canary didn't solved the problem.
- Downgrade Windows to the last update didn't solve the problem.

Actually we are testing with Hardware acceleration and awaiting user feedback

Commond details:
- All are running Chrome 57.0.2987.133
- All are using Windows 10 Creators Update.

Update: Run chrome as administrator solve the problem.

You can play fullscreen games and tab if you are running chrome as administrator, else Chrome will crash.

Some users report that if you run the game as administrator, chrome will not crash neither.

Comment 9 by maitre...@gmail.com, Apr 10 2017

I confirm it! I've just tried as Administrator and yeah it doesn't crash anymore! Thx for this hint. <3
Welcone Maitre,

Anyway that can't be considerate as fix.

Run chrome as administrator can be related with security issues.

I'll wait answer from chromium team.
I agree with you! This is not a complete solution

got this too, happens besides overwatch (found a reddit thread about that) in counterstrike go too, found even a teamfortress 2 thread a week ago.

intel/nvidia w10 and no creators update installed. no problems when no game is launched, only with games. recognized this 1 week ago.

borderless window-mode (full screen resolution) fixed it for me for the moment.

cannot tell if its only multiplayer games or if it happens in other games too, seen it only in overwatch and csgo for myself.
Yeah, sorry, that's not a fix. :P

But anyway, run as Administrator and also Window-mode (as Michaels said) are (temporarily) solutions to use Chrome while playing (LoL, WoW, OW, Hearthstone, CS-GO, TF2, L4D2,...).
I have this issue too. I tried turning off "hardware acceleration" in chrome settings, and it didn't fix anything.
This happens when CS:GO or League of legends is running in fullscreen but minimized.

After my game has been minimized for couple minutes, my browser works fine.
It has happend since I updated windows, so it might be related to that security update they pushed?

I'm also experiencing this issue. Right-clicking in Chrome to bring up the context menu works properly... unless I have a game minimised. When there is a minimised game, the outline of the context menu renders without any of the menu items (just an outline). This occurs on 100% of any right-clicks within Chrome. The browser actually crashes on a right-click about 70% of the time. When there is a minimised game, right-clicking works fine in every application besides Chrome, including Windows (I'm running the latest Windows 10).

Avast is probably causing this issue. Users reported that uninstalling it fixed the problem. I tried disabling "Game Mode" and it solved the crash without removing the antivirus software.

If you have Avast, try these two solutions.
