Notification bubbles X button is missing (hard to dismiss multiple notifications by tapping mouse button) |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 59.0.3063.4 OS: Linux What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) https://davidwalsh.name/demo/notifications-api.php (2) Click "Show a Notification" 3 times. (3) See screenshot: the X buttons are not visible unless the notification is moused over. (4) Try to close the notifications by moving the mouse to the top one's X button, and clicking 3 times. What is the expected result? I should be able to see the X buttons on the notifications at all times. When I click the top notification's X button, the next one slides into place so that clicking again (without moving the mouse) closes the second one, etc. What happens instead? I can't see the X buttons until I mouse over a notification. The mouse-out events seem to go missing sometimes. Sometimes the X remains even after the mouse leaves. Other times it disappears. Clicking 3 times doesn't work, because when the second notification slides up, there is no mouse movement event on that notification, so its X doesn't appear. Therefore the click ends up opening the notification's web page instead of dismissing it. Commentary: I can only imagine this X appearing and disappearing is intentional (such a thing doesn't just happen by accident). I think it makes the notification UI much harder to deal with. Psychologically, when I see a notification I generally want to close it after reading. If it has an X, my first subconscious thought is to click the X. When I see a notification in this new world, my subconscious brain doesn't know how to close it. I find myself having to consciously think "how do I close it? Oh yes, when I mouse over it the X will appear". It takes more mental strain now. Mechanically, it's harder to click the X now because I can't see it until the mouse is very close. Expert mouse users are very good at zipping a cursor across the screen to a defined point, then clicking, in one smooth action. In the new world, I have to now take two distinct actions: 1. Move the mouse to the center of the notification, causing the X to appear. 2. Move the mouse to the X, and click it. This takes longer. Lastly, regardless of whether the X button hiding is intentional or not, there are a couple of bugs relating to it not showing or hiding correctly.

Sorry for missing this! This was fixed in Issue 726812 . I see that the merge isn't going through, so I'll push for that.

Oh great, sorry I didn't find the duplicate. Not sure if late-stage merging is required. I'm just happy this will be fixed in 61. |
