WebGL Does not Load Textures Completely

Issue description

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. View the ShaderToy link included above on a Chome 57 system.
2. Load a texture and map the colors to a spot on the scene
3. Texture will not load completely, see images included

What is the expected behavior?
The textures should load properly and completely

What went wrong?
I am working with ShaderToy to render a 3D scene for one of my college courses. On two of the three systems I've tested, the wooden texture on the plane in the scene does not load properly. There are large strips of black or random colors where the texture should be. I've confirmed this is not an issue in ShaderToy and this only occurs when I call the texture load function(s). On my Chromebook (v56.0.2924.110) everything looks fine and works as expected. On my Fedora 24 desktop (Chrome v57.0.2987.133) and on my friend's Macbook (I did not get a version number from her), the textures only load partially. I have included screenshots from all three systems. The ShaderToy program does not run as fast on Firefox and is almost unusable. This might be caused by the recent switch to WebGL 2.0(?) and that may be the reason it works in earlier versions of Chrome.

I am able to reproduce on MacBook Air, macOS 10.12.3, Intel HD 6000.

The switch to WebGL 2.0 was in Chrome 56, so I don't think that in particular would have affected it. (I'm not even sure if Shadertoy has switched to using WebGL 2.0 yet.)

Will bisect.
ShaderToy did recently switch to WebGL 2.0. A few weeks ago, about halfway through talking this class. I got a pop-up notification from ShaderToy about the switch when I started this project.

It looks like the Mac issue is different. That issue is not a regression - it is broken in Chrome 56 as well. (BTW, I think your shader actually seems to require WebGL 2.0 - I get a black screen with WebGL 2.0 disabled.)

I'm unable to reproduce on my Linux+NVIDIA. It's probable that the bug on Linux isn't a regression either, since I'm sure those systems have different GPUs or GPU drivers.

Can you please copy+paste the contents of chrome://gpu on the affected Linux system? If possible, it would also be nice to know if you can verify that this is a regression between 56 and 57. Here is a build of Chrome 56 you should be able to run on the affected system:

Thanks for the info. Sorry, just realized this _IS_ reproducing on my workstation. When I checked, I had mixed up which was "expected".

Most likely NVIDIA-specific.

On Mac/Intel, I see the striped lines attached to the report.

On Mac/NVIDIA, we see black (just like on Linux/NVIDIA).

Also reproduces on Mac/Intel in Firefox (striped lines, but a slightly different color I think).

Any chance you could reduce this test case further? It would be much easier to debug if we had a small shader (hopefully just the texture sampling code) which behaves differently between systems. I suspect that sampling a texture with certain weird coordinates is behaving inconsistently, but I wasn't able to easily find such a case.

Thanks, this is easier. Even shorter would be ideal - it will still take quite some time to find where the incorrect behavior is creeping in. (We'll need to ultimately write a minimized WebGL conformance test which triggers the error with just a few lines.)

I noticed that removing the texture sampling entirely:
    //vec3 color = texture(iChannel0, pt2D / 1024.0).rgb;
    vec3 color = vec3(1.0, 1.0, 1.0);
still reproduces the Mac issue, so maybe that will help reduce it some more.
As ShaderToy user iq pointed out, the issue was caused by an uninitialized value in my code. I accidentally left in a conditional assignment in both projects (line 216 on the small test case and line 418 in the original project). Not sure why it worked on the Chromebook, I guess I just got lucky.

I'm going to change the original shader for my class project but keep the bug in the small test shader for you guys.

Excellent, thanks to you and iq. iq (one of the site's authors) has a habit of showing up all over to help out :)

Uninitialized shader variables are a long-standing known issue, although apparently we didn't have a report open for them. I'll create one in ANGLE and merge this issue into it.
