Bad Japanese translations on Mac

Project Member Reported by yutak@chromium.org, Jan 25 2011

Issue description

[Language] Japanese

[Version number] Google Chrome 8.0.552.237

[OS details] Mac OSX

[Where is the poor translation?]

A Japanese user wrote blog articles about bad Japanese translations in Chrome. Please see the following URLs for details (written in Japanese):

- (The author says third article will come soon)

The problem report basically consists of:
- Usage of words that is inconsistent with native (Mac's) translations
- Unnecessary accelerator key notation (such as "印刷(P)")

See the above URLs.

Seems like this bug needs some engineering effort, as for now we don't have facilities to switch translations depending on user's platform.

(a) Remove unnecessary accelerator key notation (sounds easy?)
(b) Switch translations depending on platform (hard?)

IMO we should fix (a) at least.

I'm not sure about (b), as it increases the translation cost and I don't know the cost pays the actual benefit. Additionally, we need to update documentations to match the actual words if we decide to go with (b).
I made a small change for plan (a).
Originally mac port includes logic for removing accelerator marker for English and so on. But it is not sufficient for some non-English locales like a Japanese.
