How does this relate to the existing "Add to Homescreen"-like feature on Windows?

I'm all for PWA's on the desktop (shipping quite a few these days), but are we talking about a different behavior other than "Add to Homescreen"? Something akin to the PWA>APK behavior on Android but for other platforms (PWA>Electron ala PWAify)?

This bug originally got forked out of  Issue 687635  ("Add to Desktop" missing on Mac).

What if we could allow for Electron.js-like installation of PWAs on the desktop? Related: https://mobile.twitter.com/DasSurma/status/826808039198117889/video/1. 

Issue 565591 is similar and has 25 stars — maybe it should be duped to or blocked on this issue?

Issue 517682 as well.

How is an installable PWA on desktop different to the existing "Add to desktop" feature available on Windows? It seems odd that this was forked out of a bug saying that "Add to desktop" is unavailable on Mac when it only affects Mac and is present on Windows.

@ash - that is to be determined, we don't yet have a full answer for what the changes would be.

For example, the current flow available through "menu > more tools" is not well known today so any changes we make here would likely create a new installation flow.

This issue explicitly tracks a broader set of possible featured TBD than adding the menu item on OSX.

Feel free to star and follow along as that becomes more clear though!

Would love to see this. Add to desktop currently doesn't work so well on MacOS - app doesn't get a separate slot on the taskbar, the browser window still shows the address bar.

Enable experimental app banners by default on ChromeOS.

This CL enabled experimental app banners on CrOS in preparation of
enabling DesktopPWAWindowing by default.
