samus: home directory is deleted, OS missing or damaged on reboot

The following behavior is seen on samus:
my TPM decided to nuke my home directory and when clicking Alt+Shift+I for feedback, my machine restarted and lost the OS.
After rebooting "OS is damaged or missing" screen is consistently seen on reboot.

The reason for the original reboot is unclear, but looks like it triggered TPM lockout (TPM_DISABLED_CMD version).
Bus issue are possible since strange touchpad behavior is also observed for that board.
