Project Member Reported by kotah@chromium.org, Mar 24 2017

Issue description

Chrome version: 57.0.2987.110 Stable
OS version: Windows 7, Mac OS 10.12.3.

Japanese characters disappear as user inputs them in email message body part, in a specific input pattern. See repro steps below.

Repro steps:
1) Go to Gmail Web UI, start compose and click message body to start input
2) Input half-width kana (半角カナ) with voiced sound mark (濁点), ex) "グーグル"
3) Hit return for line break, input space and some characters, ex) "テスト". Characters disappear as user tries to input them

Details:
- Issue only occurs with Chrome. No repro with Firefox, IE, Safari
- User originally noticed the issue when Chrome updated to M57
- Repro with Gmail message body input and Outlook mesage body input; No repro with Docs or other text input forms
- Repro after clearing cache & Cookies, and in Incognito

M59.0.3050.3 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) works fine.

Please do bisec which patch fixes this during M57 to M59.

It seems InputMethodController failed to handle grapheme cluster, it has been fixed in M58 or M59.
Note: Half-width-kana (U+FF78) with with voiced sound mark (U+FF9E) are two code point grapheme.
When I only put U+FF78 in step 2 of #c1, this issue is not happened.

I guess the patch[1] fixed this.

Unable to reproduce the issue on Mac 10.12.3 using chrome version 57.0.2987.133 with the below steps

1.Compose Gmail and selected the message body
2.Selected the Input half-width kana and typed the "グーグル" (KU -KU RU)
3.Hit return, and press space in second line
4.Typed the "テスト" (TE SU TO) and press enter
5.Not observed any disappearing of characters.

Please find the attached screen cast and confirm if anything missed here in triaging the issue.

@kavvaru, Your first line doesn't include voiced sound mark (濁点). It should be "グーグル" (GU - GU RU), not "クークル" (KU - KU RU).

Having said that, I can't reproduce the issue anymore. My Chrome is 57.0.2987.133, I will ask customer who reported this issue to update to latest and see if issue persists.
