Crash in DWrite.dll OpenTypeKerningPairs::WriteRegion

Reported by envos...@gmail.com, Mar 23 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0

Example URL:
http://youtube.com http://reddit.com http://jquery.com http://twitter.com http://twitch.tv http://wolframalpha.com (to name a handful)

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Load nearly any page for the error to occur.

What is the expected behavior?
The page is expected to load.

What went wrong?
Chrome: "Aw, Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage."

Opera: "Page crashed. Unfortunately, something caused this page to quit. It might have been an extensions conflict or some other reason. Try reloading this page, or navigate to another page to continue."

Steam: Almost every page that I attempt to load outputs a black screen. For a couple of pages, one or two components of the web page load, for example the background colour or an border of an image, before freezing.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes This issue didn't occur after an update to software.

Does this work in other browsers? No
Opera 41.0.2353.56, Steam browser (unknown version)

Chrome version: 57.0.2987.110 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: 25.0.0.127

I've tried:
    •Reinstalling Chrome
    •Clearing cache
    •Disabling hardware acceleration
    •Checking for malware
•Loading web pages on other devices on the same network(this works)
    •Disabling antivirus software and firewall
•Installing Google Chrome alternate standalone installer
    •Using other browsers
    •Checking for updates

I ran into the same problem on Chrome a few months ago. Installing Chrome using the alternate standalone installer resolved the issue.

The following website display fine:
http://gnu.org
http://get.webgl.org
http://twitch.tv/directory/following/live
https://www.chromium.org/

The following website do not display fine:
http://reddit.com
http://youtube.com
http://jquery.com
http://twitter.com
http://twitch.tv
http://wolframalpha.com

Can you please provide the crash ids from chrome://crashes ?

Those are client crash ids. We require the server-crash id it should be right beside it.

http://i.imgur.com/0xjCigx.png That's what I'm given.

If I click "enable crash reporting" I get redirected to "Aw, Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage."

We need Server IDs. It's something like the following in chrome://crashes:

Crash ID 5885762b-4b83-4337-a688-e586728d7522 (Server ID: 473fd6e480000000)

Summary: Crash in DWrite.dll OpenTypeKerningPairs::WriteRegion (was: Creash in DWrite.dll OpenTypeKerningPairs::WriteRegion)
envoslad@, could you try closing all applications, renaming C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT to C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DA_ or similar, then trying to browse with Chrome again?

Comment 18 by envos...@gmail.com, Mar 28 2017

That didn't resolve the issue.

Tried this solution again and it resolved the issue. Not sure why it didn't work the first time, I did the same thing both times. Thanks for the help

Thanks for checking. Closing as WontFix, sounds like DWrite cache corruption. Please comment or reopen if the situation occurs again.
