Performance has regressed on sketchfab.com

Project Member Reported by dbbrooks@chromium.org, Mar 21 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version: 58.0.3029.28
OS: Android N
Device: Pixel, Pixel XL
VR Services: 1.3.149854881

What steps will reproduce the problem?
With Daydream set as default headset,
(1) go to https://sketchfab.com/sketchfab/collections/sketchfab-vr-showcase-mobile
(2) Scroll down to the "Mars One" Mission Base and select it.
(3) Press the VR button and follow DON flow to view presentation

What is the expected result? similar results to M57. (pretty good VR experience. Head movement is smooth, etc.

What happens instead? M58 is noticeably worse. When you move your head, the content moves too, taking a a sec to catch up and reposition itself.

Note there might be a general Chrome regression here. I just logged 703378 which similarly doesn't repro on earlier Chrome versions.

Is M59 better than both?
M59 is better than 58, but perceptively I can't tell if it's better than 57.

Note that I'm hitting the same thing on https://sonicumbrella.com/

I think the severe jankiness (half-second pauses) in complex WebVR apps is caused by issue 701444 , the patches from that bug seem to fix it for me. Note there's also a separate performance and visual quality regression due to issue 704364 , but that's common for all WebVR apps.
