Better Titles for Visited URLs in the Omnibox Dropdown |
||
Issue descriptionGoogle search does a good job of eliding titles. For example, if you search for "gary danko tripadvisor", it displays the title Restaurant Gary Danko, San Francisco - Fisherman's ... - TripAdvisor Meanwhile, if I visit the page, and try to revisit using the omnibox, it uses the actual page title as source information Restaurant Gary Danko, San Francisco - Fisherman’s Wharf - Menu, Prices & Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor and then elides it (based on my screen width) simply from the end as Restaurant Gary Danko, San Francisco - Fisher... I would much rather see Restaurant Gary Danko, San Fran... - TripAdvisor (same length, more in the style of how Google search selects the title) I'd hope we can do something similar in Chrome, i.e., smarter eliding than truncating.

Assigning to tommycli@ per discussion with Justin. If we're possibly making titles more prominent in the dropdown (shown at left), it would be good to look into whether we can make these better titles. For example, can we simply import / copy a strategy similar to what Google does? |
