Chromium 57 ignores some click events

Reported by richard0...@gmail.com, Mar 17 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.87 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
http://www.tornadoweb.org/en/stable/httputil.html

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open the webpage http://www.tornadoweb.org/en/stable/httputil.html
2. Hover mouse on any of the class or method name header
3. Click on the "link" icon that appeares on hovering

What is the expected behavior?
The header goes up to the top and hash is added to the URL.

What went wrong?
The browser seems to ignore the click event, and the link icon also disappears.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes 56.0.2924.87

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 57.0.2987.110 Channel: stable
OS Version:
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 25.0 r0

I'm using Awesome 4.0 on Arch Linux. Chromium 56 works well, 57 and Google Chrome dev 58 have this problem.

I've asked a KDE user and he said he didn't have the problem.

I'm having a similar issue myself.

I created this jsbin[1] to test with. In my case, the click does not disappear, the hover menu disappears, and the click occurs on whatever was behind the hover menu. richard0, can you confirm hover menu clicks in the jsbin example trigger "clicked redbox messages"?

I'm also on 64-bit ArchLinux, using:
- Awesome window manager 4.0-1
- xorg-server 1.19.2-1
- chromium 57.0.2987.110-1

I tried to do a settings reset with extensions disabled, however the "what went wrong" behavior persists.

With the jsbin example in comment 1, you may need to click the "Run with JS" button for it to work. "Loaded" should appear in the console when example is ready.

Comment 3 Deleted

I can confirm that clicks on Item 2 > Subitems always go to the red box.

Please share your findings with crbug.com/702255 as this issue is a duplicate.

Looks like this may be fixed in a later build. Installed chromium-snapshot-bin 59.0.3045.0.r457791-1 and the hover menus are clickable.

chrome://version for that package is

Chromium	59.0.3045.0 (Developer Build) (64-bit)
Revision	e9919293913d03d2169f99c882bae1569902ea7e-refs/heads/master@{#457791}
OS	Linux
JavaScript	V8 5.9.55
Flash	(Disabled)
User Agent	Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/59.0.3045.0 Safari/537.36
Command Line	/opt/chromium-snapshot/chrome --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end https://jsbin.com/kenovo/edit?console,output

I'll add a note in crbug.com/701637 since that appears to be issue all duplicates are merging into.
