Since 57 update, Chrome uses 2GB RAM by opening Gmail and crashes Windows

Reported by tom_...@barry-callebaut.com, Mar 15 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.98 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open new Chrome instance
2. Go to Gmail
3. Wait 30 seconds

What is the expected behavior?
Chrome uses a normal amount of RAM and my user can work normally

What went wrong?
Since the 57 update, Chrome is constantly crashing my user's computers.

Attached is an extreme example of where 2GB RAM was used, just by browsing to GMail in a new instance of Chrome.

This is repeatable on her system, I have already tried reinstalling Chrome and clearing her temp files.

We have noticed significant performance issues for around 10% of users in my company (out of 5000 users) since the 57 update.

Crashed report ID:

How much crashed? Whole browser

Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A

Did this work before? Yes 56

Chrome version: 57.0.2987.98 Channel: stable
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)

Hi,

Please close this ticket. We wiped the user's laptop and reinstalled it. Her Chrome is working better since the 57.0.2987.110 update.
