Macbook Thunderbolt - Any Screen Change requires Reboot

Reported by spyderd...@gmail.com, Mar 8 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.87 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. unplug in an external screen via Thunderbolt adapter
2. Tab content stops appearing

The reverse is also true,

1. open tabs
2. plug in an external monitor to the thunderbolt port

I am using off the shelf thunderbolt to HDMI adapters, and always have to reboot when I plug/unplug them for Chrome to display content. No issues with FF or (got i hate it) Safari.

What is the expected behavior?
change monitors, browser doesn't care. OS is the only thing that should care.

What went wrong?
noted above...

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 56.0.2924.87 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.12.3
Flash Version: unknown

OS X Mavericks, 2011 Macbooks.

Unable to reproduce the issue on Mac 10.12.3 using chrome stable-56.0.2924.87 & Canary-59.0.3035.0 as per the below steps:
1.Opened few tabs in chrome
2.Connected Mac book air with thunderbolt adapter to secondary monitor
3.Dragged one tab to secondary monitor from Mac (Primary)
4.Now unplugged adapter
5.Observed above tab (step 3) shown on primary monitor without asking for reboot
6.Again connected secondary monitor with the adapter
7.Observed above same tab (steps 3) appears on secondary screen without asking for reboot

Please check & update the thread.
Thank you!!

Here is an update. Apparenlty it is related to closing the lid and then
opening it again on the MBP:

Can you please paste the content of chrome://gpu into a comment? Also, let us know specifically what model of computer this is.

I can't see that YouTube video — looks like it's marked as private. Maybe you can change it to unlisted, or upload the recording directly to the bug tracker?
